ENERGY CRISIS AND ENERGY ALTERNATIVES (07/10/2010)
Sunlight: the light of the sun
Electricity: The physical phenomena arising from the behavior of electrons and protons that is caused by the attraction of particles with opposite charges and the repulsion of particles with the same charge.
Strong :Physically powerful; capable of exerting great physical force.
Station: A place or position where a person or thing stands or is assigned to stand;
Fuels: is any material that is burned or altered to obtain energy and to heat or to move objects.
Polluting: is the introduction of contaminants into an environment that causes instability, disorder, harm or discomfort to the ecosystem
Oil :Any of numerous mineral, vegetable, and synthetic substances and animal and vegetable fats that are generally slippery, combustible, viscous, liquid or liquefiable at room temperatures, soluble in various organic solvents such as ether but not in water, and used in a great variety of products, especially lubricants and fuels.
Environment: is a complex of external factors that acts on a system and determines its course and form of existence
World: everything that exists anywhere
Methane: a colorless odorless gas used as a fuel.
Solar: energy from the sun that is converted into thermal or electrical energy
Plant: where energy is made.
Energy:
Heating: the process of becoming warmer; a rising temperature
Gas:The state of matter distinguished from the solid and liquid states by relatively low density and viscosity, relatively great expansion and contraction with changes in pressure and temperature, the ability to diffuse readily, and the spontaneous tendency to become distributed uniformly throughout any container.
Dam:A barrier constructed across a waterway to control the flow or raise the level of water.
Wave: a disturbance on the surface of a liquid body, as the sea or a lake, in the form of a moving ridge or swell
Tides: are the rise and fall of sea levels caused by the combined effects of the rotation of the Earth and the gravitational forces exerted by the Moon and the Sun. The tides occur with a period of approximately 12 and a half hours and are influenced by the shape of the near-shore bottom.
Mud:a slimy sticky mixture of solid material with a liquid and especially water.
NON-REBEWABLE ENERGY SOURCE:
--> Fossil Fuels (coal,oil,natural gas) and nuclear energy (uranium, plutonium)
--> Tkes a long time to form
--> Cannot be reused
Advantages
--> Cheap
--> Readily available
--> Efficient
--> Multipurpose (oil for cars, heating)
Disadvantages
--> Running out
--> Polluting or Radioactive
RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES
--> Biomass, Solar, Wind, Wave, Tidal, Hydroelectric, Geothermal
--> Takes a shorter time to form
--> Can be reused or is very abundant
Advantages
--> Won`t run out
--> Environmentally friendly
Disadvantages
--> Geographically selected
--> Inefficient
